What this means is people are apprehensive about doing the very things that would make their problems go away. This normally, but not always, refers to starting something or ending something. The new career. The bad relationship. You get it.
The solution is so simple – it can give your life more fulfilment and less problems.
Try this exercise…
What is the most common critical comment that plays round and round in your mind?
Yes, that one! Don’t bury it. Acknowledge it.
Now talk to yourself in that critical voice, relaying all the reasons why you shouldn’t or can’t do something, employing that deeply annoying, critical tone.
HOLD that thought.
Now change the tone of voice, make it someone who cares for you, sounds encouraging, believes in you.
What is it saying now?
Much better. Right.
Being able to rationalise your thoughts and put them into prospective will have massive impact on all your relationships – including the one you have with yourself.
Next time you’re lacking motivation, ask yourself why. Change the narrative and before you know it, the excuses are gone!
